Hello Martha and family,
I just heard that your Mom passed away - my condolences. I remember two visits to see her in Blenheim, both on a genealogy tour with my cousin, Corinne. She was very charming and I am sorry I did not have a chance to know her better.
We are carrying on Kate's work with lots of writing about our various ancestors. Her book is a great resource!

Dear Libby, Wayne and family,
Libby, I came across your mothers passing today as I was perusing the Chatham paper. I am so very sorry for your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you. It is a difficult time. I enjoyed the video tribute, your mom and dad made a beautiful family together, may the many memories comfort you. I have a copy of your mother's history book she wrote. She was an accomplished lady.
Libby, I always remember your story you shared with me of your mom and think of it often as years pass. I have shared it with many friends. The story that once when you were visiting your mom, I believe she was around 70 years old at the time, as she was looking in the mirror she commented that although she looked older on the outside, her inside didn't match her outside. Inside she still felt as she did when she was a young girl. Always young at heart. Rest in peace Mrs. Clendenning.
All our Love
Gerva and Guy Shields.
Our condolences to you Mary and Mike also. Thinking of you.

Dearest Martha, Elizabeth, Mary, and Jim,
I felt a huge wave of love and sadness upon hearing that your dear mother left her earthly home on the eau this weekend, with you all at her side. Wow.....big breath....end of an era!
Kate was such a great soul, so much a part of the cultural firmament of the community, and matriarch to your large family. To release her existence to a heaven-bound flight must have been very difficult. What a big and full life book to close! Must have been something like 95,000 pages!
So many words come to mind when I think of Kate: grace, humility, reverence, poise. There was such beauty in her smile and an uncommon light in her eyes. I will never forget her voice. Kindness emanated from deep within her and enveloped all of those in her circle.
It struck me that, when I visited with her after years away from the community, she still treated me like family, as if we did not miss a beat. I cherished that. From a young age I admired her resilience and formidable talents. I treasure all of the time I spent with you and your parents. Precious it was and I am forever grateful.
My favorite memories of Kate include seeing her in her garden as she would be this time of year, planting, and in the fall, when there would be a spread of jars of homemade jam on the counter at the Clendenning homestead. And every time I visited she had a new creation. She was such a prolific and inspiring artist, composer, and historian.
Kate epitomized goodness but her aspirations and many achievements put her in a class of her own. What an epic life! Her legacy speaks for itself but she will perhaps be remembered most in you children, as ALL of you carry a beautiful and outstanding 'Kate imprint'.
Love to you,
Abhinna Burke (Cassie)

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Clendenning Family,
There are so many wonderful memories, but one especially brings back a special reflection. In 1968, Ray cut corn & filled silo at the Clendenning Family farm on the Eau road. Kate, an excellent cook, prepared a bountiful meal for hungry men. When the men finished that year the Clendenning family decorated the forage harvester with streamers, cans & bells for a memorable send off, particularly because Ray & I married the following Saturday.

My sincere sympathy on the passing of Kate. I always enjoyed talking to her especially about her history projects. She gave so much to her local community of New Scotland and the larger area of Blenheim and area. I remember talking to her about the military service of herself and her siblings when volunteering at the military museum. Donna (Cofell) Dickson

Our hearts are broken. Kate was my choir director at New Scotland, helping to train my alto voice for choir harmonies. We loved seeing Kate come into the Store, with her family, to choose Christmas gifts .She made it Christmas for us .
We extend sympathy, love and prayers to all of the family. God Bless.

Martha, Libby, Mary and James... I am very sadden to see the passing of Aunt Kate today. I can remember lots of visits to the house on Saturdays with my Dad to see her and Uncle Jim.. I will always treasure the memories I have of her play that she wrote, "Loyal" and I was able to have a small part in. She was a very talented lady and will be missed dearly.
Thoughts and prayers in this difficult time....

Hi Martha, Lib, Mary and Jim,
If ever there was a lady in the old-fashioned sense of the word, Aunt Kate was it. Local historian, musical director, bookkeeper, wife, mother, and simply one of the nicest people you'll ever meet - she covered all the bases in a way few women of her generation could. Her bringing out the drinks for the tobacco pickers is one memory I'll cherish forever. I still dip into "Tracking Back" from time to time, and it would warm her heart to know that.
Our deepest condolences.
