Obituary of Robert Maxwell Houston

Houston: Robert Maxwell A resident of Chatham, Robert Houston passed peacefully at St. Andrew's Residence on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the age of 88. He was born in Harwich Township, son of the late Duncan and Mildred (McDonald) Houston. Beloved husband of 64 years to Marilyn (Cowley) Houston, who predeceased him on February 2, 2015. Much loved father of Gary and Judy Houston, Brian and Linda Houston, Dick and Lenore Houston, and Sharon and Dennis Blommers. Cherished grandfather of Geoff Houston (Sacha Stewart), Eric Houston (Rachel Rizzuto); Melissa Walker (Paul), Chris Houston; Brad Houston (Rachel Smink), Greg Houston, Kailey Houston; Christine Blommers, Shawna McKay (Luke), Mark Blommers and Holly Blommers. Proud great-grandfather of Riley and Ethan Walker; Mason and Gabrielle Houston. Predeceased by grandson Kevin Houston (2006), great-grandson Emmett Walker (2013). Dear brother of Ruth Button & her husband Ross, Margery McMullan & her husband Norm, and the late Andrew and Eleanor Houston, Margaret and Bill Sifton, and John and Nessie Houston. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family members and friends. Robert was a lifelong farmer in Harwich Township, and in later years honed his carpentry skills, and enjoyed sharing his talents with the next generations. He was a long time member of St. Paul's United Church, Harwich, and a member of the choir. Robert & Marilyn enjoyed the fellowship and competition of the Thames Horizon Shuffleboard Club for many years. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Heather Scott of St. Paul's United Church officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Donations made in memory of Robert to the CK Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. He raised his kids, fed his wife, giving thanks to God for a simple life.
