Jack Powell

Obituary of Jack Powell

John (Jack) Chandler Powell

Peacefully, surrounded by family, Jack Powell passed away on April 5th, 2024. He was born 96 years ago to Laura and O J Powell and except for a couple very brief stays lived in the town he loved and called home for most of them.

Jack married Audrey Powell nee Pierce (2012) in 1950 and had two children. He was a loving father to Jane (Kenneth) Ashton and John B. Powell (2022). Grandpa to Benjamin and his wife Jen. He is predeceased by four brothers and one sister.

Jack earned his business degree here in town and turned his interests into careers he enjoyed. Most people

remember him for his years at the Dominion Press and MacDonald/Shillington Insurance.

He was a lifetime elder at Mount Zion, founding member of the Horticultural Society, model railroad enthusiast and participant in many groups and local special events.

Jack was above all else a raconteur. His stories about Ridgetown over the past nine decades were abundant and entertaining.

Our turn to tell stories about him will be Saturday, April 13th at 11:00 am. Family invites you to share happy memories during a visitation between 10:00 am and 11:00 am at McKinlay Funeral Home, Ridgetown. As per Jack’s wishes, he will be laid to rest with his parents, wife and son in Greenwood following the memorial service.

Donations made in memory of Jack to Mount Zion Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
