Obituary of Janet Cook

Cook: Janet Leonora (Smith) A resident of Chatham, Janet Cook, died peacefully after a long battle with cancer, on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at her home. She was born in Harwich, UK on November 13, 1945, daughter of the late Leonard Arthur Leslie Smith and Maud Patricia Smith (Kennett). Devoted wife of almost 48 years, to John Edward Cook. Loving sister of Frances Vincent (Brian), and Leonard and Jennie Warner Smith, of the UK. Dear sister-in-law of Peter (Hilary), Susan (Keith) and Richard (Jenny) Cook, of the UK. Dear friend of many. Janet held several administrative positions in the UK, before emigrating to Canada in 1973. She retired as a bookkeeper from Ben Bruinsma & Sons Ltd., after many years of valued service. She was devoted to, and generously donated her time and administrative talents on a weekly basis to the Foundation of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA). Janet was also a volunteer, and a long-time member of the Parade of Chefs Steering Committee. She loved the many weekends and holidays she and her husband John spent with their camper van, seeing the sites of Canada and the USA, or just relaxing at Rondeau Park. She was also a happy, and much valued annual member of the “FRAM Camping Group”, made up of several couples whose husbands had worked at FRAM (now Continental Automotive Inc.) in Chatham. Friends will be received at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Chatham on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow at the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Ven.
