A resident of Blenheim, Hugh Johnston passed away peacefully at the Blenheim Community Village on December 7, 2019 at the age of 95.
Born in Chatham New Brunswick, Hugh was the son of the late Elmond and Sarah (Williston) Johnston.
Beloved husband for 51 years to the late Verne (nee Wilt) (1997).
Loving father to, Stafford (Mary) Johnston of Blenheim, Valerie (late Roger Collins) Johnston of White Rock British Columbia, and Doug Johnston of Blenheim.
Grandfather to Ryan Johnston (Jasmine McKenzie), and Stafford Jr. Johnston (Emma Koehler) all of Blenheim.
Dear brother to Mary (the late Bill) Scott, Blair (Arlene) Johnston, Trudy (Tom) Duff, and predeceased by Walter (Una) Johnston, Elmond (surviving wife Karen) Johnston, and Hattie (Joe) Foley.
Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and close friends.
Hugh was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed playing the bagpipes in his spare time and making violins. Many family and friends will remember him through the Masonic Lodge, Legion, Blenheim Freedom Library, and his connections as owner of Golden Acres Nursing Home in Guilds.
Hugh's family would like to warmly thank the outstanding staff at the Blenheim Community Village, Dr. Wheeler and Dr. Perkin for their compassionate care and support.
Cremation has taken place and a Visitation will be held on Thursday December 12, 2019 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 141 Park St. in Blenheim from 2:00pm to 4:00pm with a Masonic Service at 4:00pm and a Legion/Memorial service to follow with Rev. Bill Terris officiating.
Private family interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery at a future date.
Donations made in memory of Hugh to the Blenheim District Freedom Library and Museum or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
