Obituary of Gwendolyne Gold

Surrounded by our love and in the comfort of her family, our mother, grandmother, and loving friend Gwen Gold passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the age of 90. A exceptional woman who touched so many throughout her long and meaningful life. Born on May 28, 1926, daughter of the late James & Clara Smith of Harwich Township near Mull, Ontario. Gwen was the wife to the late Orville Leon Gold (1990). Daughter-in-law to the late Alex & Ida Gold. Sister to the late Clifford Smith, and sister-in-law to Karen Kirby (John). Mother to Sharlene Gardner & the late Paul, the late Barry & Mary Gold, Howard Douglas Gold, Bradley Gold, Jayne & Kenneth Rhodes, Shelley & Joseph Reding, Alex & Lorrie Gold. Daughter-in-law Patti Gold. Grandma will be forever missed by her 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She had a generous and warm, caring soul. Gwen grew up on a 500 acre farm with her brother, Clifford. She attended business college before marrying Orville Gold in 1946 where they went on to raise 7 children and was a wonderful loving, devoted family leader. Gwen was Director of several corporations. She had a life long love and appreciation of antiques and cooking. Her delicious and mouth-watering food was made with love to all who entered her door. She was a member of the Chatham Hadassaa chapter. Gwen was the Past President of Zonta Club, Past President of the Chatham Cultural Centre and Vice Chair of the Thames Campus Advisory Committee. Assisting with a vision of a permanent Chatham campus, she was appointed to the Board of Governors of St. Clair College and also received an honourary diploma from St. Clair College. Gwen was the recipient of the May Court's Women of Excellence Award in May of 2016 for Arts, Culture, Education & Training. Gwen’s continuously positive outlook was an encouragement and inspiration to all. She was a remarkable woman, a special “one of a kind” lady. She will be missed by her four-legged furry companions “Johnny” and “Tommy”. Gwen's family would like to thank her many caregivers, especially Rudy Camarillo who provided much loving care in her final days.
