Obituary of Gerald Keating

Gerald (Gerry) Stanislaus Keating passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on August 24, 2016. Gerry continues to be loved by his wife of 64 years Joan (nee McLean), and their children Dave (Jeanette), Greg (Gean), Eric (Sandra), Debra, and Ray (Carole); his grandchildren Melinda, Alisha, Daniel, Grant, Lee, Adam, Erin, Matthew, Leanne, Raymond, Kathalleen, Barbara, and Francis; and his great grandchildren Neveah, Freya, Pearl, and Elizebeth, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Gerry is predeceased by his parents, six brothers, two sisters, and son Larry. Born November 13, 1929 to parents Agnes (nee Crispo) and James Bernard Keating, Gerry was raised in Port Hood, Cape Breton. He married his loving wife Joan on October 16, 1952, in Sydney, Cape Breton, where the two raised their growing family for many years until moving to Moncton, New Brunswick in 1971. In 2000, Gerry and Joan moved to Dealtown, Ontario to be closer to family, where he resided until his death. Gerry worked for forty years with CN Telecommunications until his retirement in 1988. Gerry and Joan were Florida snowbirds for over 25 years, where they met many close friends. A true Cape Bretoner, Gerry always had a story to tell, a song to sing, or a laugh to share with those around him. Above all, he was a man of Faith, Family, and Friends, and took great pleasure being in their presence. Cremation has taken place. Family to receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 95 Marlborough Street North, Blenheim. Interment of Cremated Remains will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Lung Association.
